The Royal Rumble match is one of the most anticipated matches of the year due to its unpredictability and because it kicks off the road to WrestleMania.
Who’d have thought 30 years ago that a battle royal match would become many fans highlight of the wrestling calendar?
However, it’s not without its share of controversy, especially in recent years. When WWE gets the rumble winner right it can be a great feel good moment for the fans but when they get it wrong, they get spectacularly wrong. Fans have not been afraid to boo WWE’s choice of winner if it doesn’t line up with who they thought should have won.
That’s why it was so surprising when the fan favourites won both rumble matches last year. It felt like the first time in years WWE had listened to fans when it came to the Rumble.
But for every Ric Flair or Shawn Michaels, there is a Lex Luger. Whilst there is so many good victors, there is also a fair share of poor Royal Rumble winners.
But what is it that makes someone the right person to win the rumble? Is it simply a case of the right guy at the right time?
Join host Sarah Grieve and her panel as they discuss their picks for the best Rumble winner and the worst Rumble winner and examine the reasons behind their picks.
Unfortunately, the Greatest Royal Rumble was excluded from contention. Sorry Braun.
