May 29th 2014 saw the first official event under the NXT Takeover banner. Now, just over five years to the day, NXT Takeover turns a quarter century as WWE’s third brand comes to Connecticut for NXT Takeover 25.
The event has produced some of WWE’s best matches and moments in recent time, and this weekend’s show promised to do the same.
As per Takeover tradition, five matches make up the card. Back at Wrestlemania weekend, they put on a five star classic for the NXT Championship. Now, in a hotly anticipated rematch, Adam Cole challenges Johnny Gargano.
After almost four years on the main roster, Tyler Breeze is back in NXT. In what is sure to be an exciting contest, he challenges The Velveteen Dream for the North American championship.
NXT Takeover: New York saw Shayna Bazler surprise many when she successfully defender her women’s championship in a fatal-four way matchup. This weekend, she will square off against one of her opponents that night in Io Shirai.
The War Raiders call up to RAW has now left the NXT Tag Team Titles vacant. Four teams will slug it out for the prize with The Undisputed Era facing off against The Forgotten Sons, The Street Profits and the team of Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch.
Rounding off the night will be Matt Riddle, looking to regain momentum after failing to dethrone the Dream in New York. He squares off against Undisputed Era’s Roderick Strong.
Ross Mcleod and the Takeover panel look ahead to the event, discussing the build up, matches and their predictions.
